Echoes of Motion: Sabrina Terence Explores the Invisible Forces Behind Abstract Art
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Contemporary abstract artist Sabrina Terence has built a distinctive artistic language that bridges sound, movement, and visual expression. Drawing on a career that spans both the worlds of fine art and electronic music, she transforms rhythm, vibration, and emotional energy into dynamic abstract compositions defined by circular forms and flowing waves. Her work invites viewers to experience painting not simply as something to observe, but as something to feel.

Since beginning her artistic journey in Germany in 1998, Sabrina has continuously pushed the boundaries of creative expression. In 2016, she made history as the first artist to send a painting 65 kilometers into space—an achievement that symbolized her fascination with expansion, transformation, and the limitless possibilities of human creativity.

In this exclusive interview with ArtGulf.ae, Sabrina Terence reflects on the relationship between music and painting, the influence of global experiences on her artistic vision, and her ongoing exploration of energy, frequency, and atmosphere. She also shares how her work continues to evolve, challenging traditional perceptions of abstract art while creating immersive visual experiences that resonate on both an emotional and sensory level.

Your work bridges both visual art and music. How do these two creative worlds influence one another in your artistic journey?

For me, music and visual art are two different languages that express the same emotion. As a DJ, I work with rhythm, energy, and the connection between people. When I paint, I translate those invisible frequencies into colors, textures, and movement on canvas.

My Mind Vibration series explores this relationship. The circular forms and flowing waves symbolize energy, connection, and the unseen vibrations that influence our emotions.

Whether I’m performing behind the DJ booth or standing in front of a canvas, my goal is always the same: to create an emotional experience that people can feel rather than simply observe.

Dubai has become one of the world’s fastest-growing cultural and creative hubs. How has living and working in the city shaped your artistic vision and career?

I have been living in the UAE since 2006, and it has given me opportunities I could never have imagined. Dubai is a place where cultures, ideas, and creativity come together every day. That diversity has had a profound influence on both my music and my art.

As one of Dubai’s early female DJs, I experienced the city’s incredible evolution firsthand. Performing for audiences from around the world taught me to connect with people beyond language or culture. That same openness is reflected in my artwork, which focuses on universal emotions and human connection rather than cultural boundaries.

Dubai has encouraged me to think internationally while remaining authentic to myself.

Every artist has a defining moment. Was there a particular experience that inspired you to pursue both art and DJing professionally?

Creativity has always been part of who I am. Painting came naturally long before I exhibited my work professionally, while music became another way of expressing emotion.

A defining moment wasn’t a single event but rather the realization that both art forms allow me to communicate what words often cannot.

DJing lets me create energy in real time, while painting captures that energy in a lasting visual form.

Over the years, performing in more than 65 countries has shown me that emotions are universal. Whether through music or art, people connect through feeling, and that understanding continues to inspire everything I create. I love my both passions.

Looking ahead, what new projects, collaborations, or exhibitions can your audience expect from you over the coming months?

I’m currently expanding my Mind Vibration series with larger works and exploring new mixed-media techniques that combine texture, movement, and metallic elements.

Following my recent exhibition in the UAE, I’m also working on future international exhibitions and collaborations that bring together music and visual art in immersive ways. On the music side, I will continue performing internationally while developing creative concepts that merge live DJ performances with visual storytelling.

I’m excited to continue building bridges between these two creative worlds.

What advice would you give to young artists and creatives who dream of building an international career while staying true to their unique artistic identity?

Don’t try to become a copy of someone who is already successful. The world doesn’t need another version of someone else, it needs your authentic perspective.

Building an international career takes patience, consistency, and resilience. There will be setbacks, but every experience teaches you something valuable. Focus on developing your craft, stay curious, keep learning, and never lose the passion that made you start.

Success isn’t only measured by awards or followers. It’s about creating work that is honest, meaningful, authentic and leaves a lasting impression on others.
