Sharjah Art Foundation Launches Second Season of Biennial Bytes Podcast

The Sharjah Art Foundation has officially launched the second season of its podcast, Biennial Bytes, coinciding with the ongoing Sharjah Biennial 16: to carry. This season promises to offer deep insights into the creative process and artistic collaborations featured in the Biennial, which runs until June 15, 2025, across multiple venues in Sharjah City and other locations in the Emirate.

Key Features of Biennial Bytes Season 2

  • Curatorial Insights: The podcast kicks off with a conversation between the five curators of SB16—Alia Swastika, Amal Khalaf, Megan Tamati-Quennell, Natasha Ginwala, and Zeynep Öz—moderated by Hoor Al Qasimi, President and Director of Sharjah Art Foundation. This episode explores the synergy between the curators’ projects and how the Biennial serves as a space for encounter and collective processing[4].

  • Artist Conversations: Subsequent episodes delve into specific works and projects presented at SB16 through conversations between individual curators and participating artists. Featured artists include Bint Mbareh, Joe Namy, Yhonnie Scarce, Tabu Osusa, Citra Sasmita, Stephanie Comilang, Hellen Ascoli, Ana Iti, Naeem Mohaiemen, Pratchaya Phinthong, Adelita Husni-Bey, Mahmoud Khaled, and Kapulani Landgraf[4].

  • Release Schedule: New episodes are released every Monday on popular platforms like Apple, Spotify, and Anghami, ensuring accessibility for a wide audience[4].

Sharjah Biennial 16: to carry

The Sharjah Biennial 16, themed to carry, is a multivocal and open-ended proposition that explores the ever-expanding questions of what to carry and how to carry it. The Biennial features over 300 artworks by almost 190 artists and takes place in various venues across Sharjah City, Al Hamriyah, Al Dhaid, Kalba, and other locations within the Emirate[5].

Sharjah Art Foundation’s Role

The Sharjah Art Foundation serves as a catalyst and producer of contemporary art within the Emirate of Sharjah and the surrounding region, engaging in dialogue with the international arts community. Established in 2009, the foundation is dedicated to supporting the production and presentation of contemporary art, preserving regional culture, and fostering a shared understanding of the transformational role of art[6].
