Louvre Abu Dhabi Launches New Family and Student Activity Season

Louvre Abu Dhabi has announced a vibrant new season of activities for families and students, inspired by the museum’s distinguished collection. Centred on creative, object-based learning, the upcoming programme introduces two engaging offerings: Family Weekends and After School Activities.

The initiative encourages families and students to engage directly with artworks through both guided gallery experiences and hands-on workshops.

Throughout the month, Family Weekends provide an opportunity for families to delve into art through weekly thematic workshops. Each weekend features a dedicated workshop theme, with events held on both Saturday and Sunday, offering two free drop-in sessions each day.

Highlights include the “Picasso Inspired Family Portraits” workshop scheduled for 4th-5th April. Drawing inspiration from works in the Picasso, the Figure exhibition, participants will examine how Picasso portrayed family and loved ones, and create expressive portraits using layered transparent sheets transferred onto paper.

On 11th-12th April, the “Make an Aluminium Foil Coin” workshop invites families to design memento coins using aluminium foil, inspired by the museum’s coin collection. This activity explores concepts of value, exchange and memory across different civilisations.

The weekend of 18th-19th April features the “Design Your Travel Journal or Postcard” workshop. Inspired by Paul Klee’s Oriental Bliss, participants are encouraged to reflect on travel experiences by creating unique postcards or journals that utilize colour, line, and motif. All Family Weekend activities are free and open on a drop-in basis.

Running concurrently, the museum’s After School Activities programme, available from April through June, offers enriching sessions for students of all ages led by professional museum educators. This programme blends gallery-based learning with hands-on creative practice.

The “Discover the Collection and Let’s Sketch” session, every Tuesday, explores themes such as UAE heritage, Islamic art, and animal representation. After engaging with curated artworks, students participate in guided sketching exercises.

On Wednesdays, “Seek and Find: Quest for Materials” introduces students to the world of material heritage and preservation through interactive activities involving riddles and object discovery. Additionally, a Special Drawing at the Museum session caters to older students, focusing on observational drawing and visual documentation.

Thursday sessions draw inspiration from Pablo Picasso, spotlighting works such as Woman with a Mandolin and Paloma. Students journey through the Picasso, the Figure exhibition, followed by practical workshops that explore portraiture and form.

Louvre Abu Dhabi has extended an open invitation to families and students to participate in these activities, with parents also encouraged to join daily guided tours, available free of charge until 30th April.
