Sharjah Art Foundation Invites Families to Experience Inspiring Art This Summer

This summer, the Sharjah Art Foundation (SAF) is set to captivate visitors with a dynamic range of family-friendly activities and thought-provoking immersive experiences. From exceptional art installations to skill-building workshops, the Foundation offers opportunities for everyone to engage in the vibrant world of contemporary art.

One of the highlights is the Rain Room, an innovative installation where visitors can walk through a continuous downpour—without getting wet. This immersive artwork utilizes 2,500 litres of self-cleaning recycled water and advanced 3D tracking cameras that respond to human movement. As participants move through the darkened space, the rain pauses directly above, creating a unique sensory experience and prompting reflection on the connections between nature and technology.

Beyond the Rain Room, the Flying Saucer stands out as an architectural landmark—recently restored into a vibrant cultural destination. Visitors can browse unique contemporary books in the art library or discover a wide selection of art books, design-led gifts, and educational materials at the SAF Shop. The building itself is a marvel, adding another layer to the cultural experience.

The foundation also hosts an array of programmes, including film screenings, workshops, performances, and readings. Many activities take place in the open café, library spaces, or specialized enclosed areas: the intimate Meeting Pod for small gatherings, the versatile Activation Pod, and the Craft Pod—equipped especially for art workshops and hands-on activities.

From typography and filmmaking to puppet designing and music sessions, SAF’s workshops cater to children, adults, and families alike. Designed for children ages 6 to 15, these workshops provide engaging and hands-on experiences. All are free of charge, with materials provided; parents and guardians are encouraged to participate alongside their children.

For those ages 17 and above, specialized workshops, led by locally-based artists and cultural practitioners, offer a chance to deepen artistic skills and strengthen critical thinking in an engaging environment.

True to its mission, the Foundation is committed to making its programmes inclusive and accessible, presenting sessions in both English and Arabic.
